‘Ahd Supplication
[page_title]، From the comprehensive virtual encyclopedia of Wiki Mahdism
The ‘Ahd Supplication is one of the famous devotions that it has been emphasized on its recitation in Imam of the Age`s occultation period (pbuh).
References of the supplication
This supplication has been narrated in extensive references such as Al-Mazar Al-Kabir, Mesbah Al-Zayer, Al-Balad Al-Amin and Al-Misbah Kafami, and Bahar Al-Anwar Majlisi. The extent of the narration of the supplication in various references shows the trust of scholars upon this supplication.
The virtue of reciting the supplication
Imam Sadiq says in the virtue of prayer before saying it: << Whoever recites God with this supplication forty mornings; He was one of our upright companions. If he dies before the reappearance of the Imam, God Almighty will take him out of his grave and grant him a thousand good deeds and erase a thousand bad deeds from him for every word >>.
Perseverance in supplication
The ‘Ahd Supplication is one of the devotions that Emphasis is placed on repeating it. Perseverance in supplication has the property of placing man among the returners of the time of reappearance. Some narrations have specified that the return is not public and besides the return of the infallible Imams, they have introduced only the pure believer and the pure polytheist as the returners. Imam Sadegh's promise regarding the return of a person who has reached the dignities of this supplication through the ‘Ahd Supplication shows that the ‘Ahd Supplication has such a capacity that it can bring a person to the rank of a pure believer and a pure Shiite in a very short time. Remaining in the covenant with the Imam with this supplication has another reward that according to the number of words recited from the supplication, God Almighty grants him a thousand good deeds and cleanses him of a thousand sins in such a way that it disappears and no trace of it remains.
Understanding the virtues that have been stated for the Qur'anic supplication or surah (verses) is not just a matter of reading and tongue-lashing, but recitation is the prelude to penetrating the heart and penetrating the heart in order to act and adhere to it. The seeker who wants to be fulfilled with the ‘Ahd Supplication, must be committed to the rites and conditions of the supplication and adhere to the covenant he makes and apply it in life.
Naming the supplication as the ‘Ahd
The naming of the supplication as "the ‘Ahd" is taken from the narration of Imam Sadegh in the virtue of this supplication. The Imam said, "Whoever recites God with this supplication for forty mornings ..." There is the title of the covenant in another supplications; Like the supplication narrated from Imam Baqir and Sayyid ibn Tawus interprets it as the supplication of the ‘Ahd.
An overview of the knowledge of the supplication
Every supplication has a beginning, a middle and an end that are connected like chains. Getting the connection between the different parts of a supplication is sometimes easy and can be achieved with a little reflection, but sometimes it requires a lot of care. The ‘Ahd Supplication is one of the devotions that is not easy to discover the connection between its phrases and depends on the type of explanation of the phrases. Various explanations have been given in the descriptions for the connection between the phrases, and an attempt has been made to provide the sum of them. According to the explanation of the phrases, this supplication consists of eight parts.
First part
reminding of the divine lordship and revelation of the heavenly books
The beginning of this section is with the phrase "oh Allah, the God of bright light" and the end is with the phrase "and the God of esteemed angels, and prophets and apostles". The word Rabb has been mentioned five times with different meanings and God has been interpreted as Munzil twice, one referring to the revelation of the Torah, the Bible and the Psalms, and the other to the revelation of the Quran.
Second part
paying attention to the divine attributes and relying on the divine names
This section begins with the phrase of "oh God, I request from your generous essence " In this section, the living attribute of God is repeated, which is not unrelated to the subject of the return that will follow, and in the virtue of supplication, Imam Sadegh promised the one who perseveres in supplication. Intrinsic can be life-giving that is self-existent and inherently alive. Resurrection in this world takes place by the will of God Almighty.
Third part
the request to convey a collective greeting to Hazrat
The phrase "oh God, send us by your authority the one who is our protector, our leader, our guide; the true guided" is the beginning of this section, which is a special blessings and peace to the Imam. Salutation is sometimes individual and sometimes collective and on behalf of another. The collective salutation is apparently a salutation, but since it is performed on behalf of several people, it seems that to the number of people who have shared in salutation, the greeting and benediction is sent to the Imam. Another feature of the development of people is giving a greeting, a broad and universal attitude that arises for the seeker and helps to free him from egoism and selfishness.
Fourth part
the Mahdavi era
Renewal of the covenant means renewal and remembrance of the covenant, and means acknowledgment and adherence to a covenant that has already been taken from man and is not merely a renewal of the covenant of the past. This covenant may be the same promise mentioned in verse 172 of Surah Al'raf. The promise to which the descendants of Adam all have responded positively and includes the divine Lordship, the prophetic mission, the Alavi Imamate, and the acceptance of the guardianship of the infallibles. At the heart of the Mahdavi covenant and the covenant with the Imam of the Age, monotheism, prophethood and the Imamate of other infallibles are hidden and there is nothing for doubt. This comprehensiveness is also observed in Mahdavi pilgrimages. For example, in the pilgrimage of Al-Yasin, the testimony of Imam Mahdi (as) about monotheism, prophethood and the Imamate of each of the Imams has been mentioned.
Fifth part
the Eight authorities of Allegiance to the Imam of the Age (Provisions of the Covenant)
Opinions on this section are different and can be viewed from two angles. First, the petitions that begin with the phrase, "oh God, let me be one of his companions" are all the provisions of the treaty mentioned above. Helping, assisting the Imam, defending his sanctity, obeying his orders, supporting and other items of the provisions of the covenant that must be fulfilled, and the person who makes a covenant with Hazrat Mahdi must guarantee all of the above to the Imam.
The second view is that the eight items mentioned in the form of the request are the authorities, which include the state of allegiance to the Imam. That is, whoever is sincere in his covenant with the Imam and perseveres in this way will achieve these positions, and in other words, honesty in allegiance to the Imam and persistence and perseverance in this way will lead to the attainment of eight positions. With the understanding of these authorities, the seeker reaches a point where his whole being is dedicated to the Imam and he is ready to sacrifice his life for the sake of the goals of his Imam.
Sixth part
Return Request
One of the indisputable Shiite beliefs is the issue of return. Return in the word means rejection, repetition and return, and in the term means return to the world after death at the time of the reappearance of Hazrat Mahdi. The above is the supplication in which the request for return is made: "oh God, if death which is a definite destiny to everyone separated me from him, take me out of my grave, while I’m wearing my shroud, I’m drawing my sword out of my sheath, and I will comply his order which is mandatory for all people " , Although the word "return" is not used, leaving the grave while the shroud is on his shoulder and his sword and spear are ready, indicates his return to the world to help the Hazrat. With assurance of Imam Sadegh's promise to leave the grave at the beginning of the supplication, the same promise is requested at the top.
Seventh part
the supplication for reappearance
This section begins with the phrase of "oh God, show me that eminent and bright face ". Although in this phrase, the appearance of the Imam has been requested for the praying person and for the unity of the context, the form of the speaker has been revealed, but it means that God should show the beauty of the Imam to everyone and everyone will benefit from this grace with the advent of the Imam.
Eighth part
the Imam's governing plans
When the Infallible Imam rules the world and justice pervades, its effects and blessings will be visible. Some of the blessings expressed in this section are:
- The prosperity of all lands "And make cities and towns prosperous by his hand".
- The revival of servants and the expansion of servitude "And animate your servants by him".
- The complete annihilation of falsehood "till he wipes all falsehoods out".
- The complete establishment of truth and right "and sets up the truth and empower it".
- Returning the Canceled Rulings of the Qur'an "assign him as the one who brings back the Qur'an rules".
- Strengthening the rituals of the religion and the prophetic customs "and empower your religion and the customs of your prophet ".
